Stainless Steel 431 is a martensitic steel with 15.0–17.0% Chromium and 1.25–2.5% Nickel. It provides high tensile strength (850–1000 MPa), yield strength approximately 620 MPa, and hardness up to 30 HRC. It has average corrosion resistance and good toughness, particularly in hardened and tempered condition. SS 431 is ferromagnetic and offers better machinability in comparison to other martensitic grades. Due to its composition, it is suitable for components that need high strength and corrosion resistance in relatively aggressive environments.
