Steel 303 is austenitic stainless with ~18% Cr, ~8% Ni, and sulfur ~0.15% and selenium ~0.03% added for machinability. It has tensile strength of 515–760 MPa and yield strength of 205–310 MPa, with elongation of ~40%. Its hardness is ~217 HB. It has good machinability, good corrosion resistance in mild environments, and reasonable formability. It is not heat treatment hardenable. Conforms to ASTM A276 for bars/rods.
