It contains 12–14% chromium and up to 0.15% carbon, being heat-treatable for increased mechanical performance. The hexagonal shape offers improved grip and torque transmission in mechanical and fastening purposes. Mechanical properties involve tensile strength of 700–850 MPa, yield strength of 345 MPa, and elongation of approximately 15%. Stainless Steel 420 is both annealed and hardened condition magnetic and possesses good resistance to corrosion in mild conditions, particularly following polishing or passivation.
