Stainless Steel 416 Hollow Bar is a free-machining martensitic stainless steel that usually contains 12–14% chromium and added sulfur to enhance machinability. It has a tensile strength of about 550–700 MPa, yield strength of around 275 MPa, and elongation of about 15%. This grade is magnetic and may be hardened by heat treatment to increase wear resistance. The hollow shape yields weight savings as well as efficient use of material without sacrifice of structural integrity. 416 stainless is well suited for machining at high speeds, such that it is an economical solution for components that have tight tolerances as well as smooth surfaces.
