EN‑353 usually contains 0.10–0.20% carbon, 0.75–1.25% manganese, and 0.08–0.15% chromium
. Upon hardening and tempering, it achieves tensile strengths greater than 800 MPa and hardness values between HB 230–300. The alloy is both good at resisting shock and machining.
