Louis Metals produces corrosion-resistant Forgings of Aluminium 5086 in Houston, USA, for marine, chemical, and structural use. Being a non-heat-treatable alloy with superior weldability, 5086 works very efficiently in saltwater and industrial environments. It meets the requirements of ASTM B247 and is available in various shapes and tempers. Our forgings of 5086 are optimized for high-strength application, especially in situations where corrosion and structural stability are of prime importance.
5086 has 3.5–4.5% Magnesium, 0.4–1% Manganese, and trace amounts of Iron and Chromium. It exhibits tensile strength of 275–350 MPa and yield strength of 200–290 MPa in H116 or H32 tempers. Being a non-heat-treatable alloy, it’s hardened by cold working. The alloy demonstrates superior resistance to saltwater corrosion and good weldability with little loss of strength at weld joints.

Aluminum 5086 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications due to its relatively low melting point and limited strength at elevated temperatures. It is better suited for marine and structural applications.
Aluminum 5086 offers high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and weldability. It is ideal for marine environments, aerospace applications, and custom forgings requiring durability, lightweight properties, and easy fabrication.
Aluminum 5086's excellent workability enables easy forging, allowing it to maintain strength and formability. However, its susceptibility to cold working requires careful temperature control during forging to prevent cracking.
5086 Forgings are specifically suitable for ship construction, offshore platforms, pressure vessels, and storage tanks. They have broad applications in boat hulls, deck parts, coastal constructions, and vehicle armor. The corrosion resistance of the alloy also makes it suitable for fuel tanks, cryogenic tanks, and military usage. With good performance in welded structures, 5086 forgings are a safe bet in marine, transport, and defense industries.
