440C round bars consist of 16–18% chromium and 0.95–1.20% carbon, with small amounts of molybdenum and manganese. The alloy can be heat treated to reach hardness levels up to 60 HRC, offering tensile strength of over 2000 MPa. While its corrosion resistance is lower than austenitic grades, it is sufficient for light acidic and water exposure in hardened condition. The material is magnetic, extremely wear-resistant, and maintains excellent dimensional stability after machining.
