Stainless Steel 431 is an iron-chromium alloy that contains about 15.5–17.5% chromium, 1.25–2.5% nickel, and a maximum of 0.2% carbon. It strikes a great balance with high tensile strength (up to 850 MPa), yield strength (around 520 MPa), and hardness, particularly after heat treatment. Additionally, it offers good resistance to oxidation and mild corrosive environments. SS 431 can be hardened through heat treatment and has moderate machinability and weldability. This alloy is magnetic in all conditions and showcases excellent mechanical performance in marine, high-pressure, and structural applications.
