Copper bars and rods consist of ≥99.9% pure copper (electrolytic tough pitch or oxygen-free types). They have excellent thermal and electrical conductivity and are, therefore, suited for electrical applications. Mechanical characteristics usually consist of tensile strength between 210 and 250 MPa, elongation of 30–45%, and Brinell hardness of 40–60 HB. They possess high ductility and resistance to corrosion. General grades conform to ASTM B187/B187M. Depending on temper (half-hard, hard, annealed), copper bars can be hot or cold worked for diverse manufacturing purposes in stressful industrial applications.
