Yes, Incoloy 800 can be forged into custom shapes. Its excellent high-temperature resistance and strength make it suitable for various forging processes.
The ideal temperature range for forging Incoloy 800 is between 1,800°F to 2,200°F (982°C to 1,204°C). This range ensures optimal ductility and workability during the forging process.
To assess the forging strength of Incoloy 800 for aerospace applications, evaluate its tensile strength, yield strength, and fatigue resistance at elevated temperatures. Additionally, assess its performance under cyclic loads and long-term thermal stability.
Incoloy 800 forgings are best suited for nuclear steam generators, reformer tubes, furnace parts, and petrochemical process piping. Due to their ability to withstand carbon deposition, oxidation, and cyclic thermal load, they can be used in heater tubes, boiler superheaters, and heat exchanger tubes. They are utilized in reaction vessels, cracker coils, and food processing equipment subjected to varying temperatures in the chemical industry. Their high strength and formability enable precision machining of flanges, fittings, and pump shafts. Incoloy 800 is the alloy of preference wherever corrosion resistance, toughness, and stability in high-temperature applications are required.
