Luois Metals supplies high-performance Haynes 242 alloy rods and bars to customers throughout Houston and the wider U.S. market. Renowned for outstanding thermal stability and strength at mid-temperature ranges, Haynes 242 is nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy utilized in aerospace, nuclear, and chemical processing applications. We offer material certified to AMS and ASTM standards, accurately made and tested for high-demanding uses. With rapid turnaround and specialized technical support, Luois Metals guarantees you high-quality Haynes 242 products appropriate to your most severe operating conditions.
Haynes 242 is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy containing about 25% molybdenum, 8% chromium, and 2.5% iron. It is hardened by long-range ordering instead of precipitation, and this gives good thermal stability up to 1300°F (705°C). Tensile strength is about 827 MPa, with yield strength of 517 MPa and elongation of about 25–35%. Haynes 242 has very low thermal expansion and good oxidation resistance. It is in compliance with AMS 5947 and ASTM B435 standards and is often chosen for structural applications where there is a need for corrosion resistance and dimensional stability.
Yes, Haynes 242 bars are available in various lengths, typically customized according to the requirements of the customer, and can be cut to specific dimensions upon request.
Haynes 242 bars typically come in standard sizes ranging from 0.5 inches to 10 inches in diameter and lengths from 12 inches to 24 feet, depending on customer requirements.
To maintain Haynes 242 bars, regularly clean with non-abrasive methods, avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, store in a dry environment, and inspect for any signs of corrosion or damage.
The Haynes 242 bars and rods find application in aircraft engine parts, seals, fasteners, and structures that need low thermal expansion and high strength. It also finds its application in nuclear reactors, supercritical CO₂ power cycles, and high-efficiency heat exchangers. Its high strength in mid-range temperatures qualifies it for honeycomb structures, exhaust ducts, and bellows. It finds application in the chemical industry in reaction vessels and catalyst support because of its high corrosion resistance. Haynes 242 offers a mix of strength, dimensional stability, and oxidation resistance that makes it precious in mission-critical thermal systems.
