Louis Metals is one of the leading suppliers and manufacturers of Tool and Die Steel H13 Bars, providing high–quality materials from Houston, USA. H13 is a chromium-molybdenum hot working steel that is known for its toughness, resistance to thermal fatigue, and hardness retention at high temperatures. Our bars of H13 are produced under tight process controls to provide a balance of strength, heat resistance, and wear life. Louis Metals assures every product to industry standards of stringent hot working applications like die casting, extrusion, and forging. With high tool life and reliability, H13 is a top pick in the tooling industry.
H13 Tool and Die Steel Bars usually have 0.4% carbon, 5% chromium, 1.3% molybdenum, and 1% vanadium. The composition gives superior thermal fatigue resistance, high hardness (up to 52–56 HRC), and toughness. H13 has strength and stability up to 600°C temperature and is therefore appropriate for hot-working processes. It also has good polishability and machinability, and tensile strengths of up to 1000 MPa. Due to its well-balanced wear resistance, red hardness, and impact strength, H13 finds application in high-heat and high-pressure conditions exceptionally well.

When choosing Tool and Die Steel H13 bars, consider factors such as hardness, heat resistance, wear resistance, toughness, machinability, and the specific requirements of the application, including temperature and load conditions.
Tool and Die Steel H13 bars offer limited corrosion resistance due to their high alloy content, but they can still be susceptible to rusting in harsh environments. To improve corrosion resistance, they may require additional surface treatments like coating or regular maintenance to prevent degradation.
Tool and Die Steel H13 bars are primarily designed for tooling and high-temperature applications. While strong, they are not ideal for structural applications due to their specific properties tailored for manufacturing tools.
Tool and Die Steel H13 Bars find major applications in hot-working operations, such as die-casting molds, hot extrusion dies, forging dies, and plastic mold bases. They are also used in aircraft and vehicle tooling where resistance to thermal fatigue is a requirement. H13‘s hot hardness and durability under repeated heating and cooling cycles make it suitable for tools that are subjected to the most severe temperature fluctuations. Other uses are core pins, inserts, and high-speed press-forming tools. Due to its high hot hardness and strength, H13 is also popular for ejector pins and wear parts in high-volume production operations.
